An $18,000 mobile classroom designed to teach youngsters how to avoid child abuse, drug abuse and other crimes has been unveiled by Santa Barbara County Sheriff-Coroner John Carpenter. The Sheriff’s Department said the classroom on wheels is the first of its kind in California. “Other crime prevention trailers have been developed and used, but none targeting the elementary school children” on these subjects, a department spokesman said. The classroom was paid for with a $7,000 grant from the Santa Barbara Foundation, other private donations and Sheriff’s Department funds.
