Compulsory Religious Studies Ordered in Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya — Religious studies in Kenyan schools will become compulsory in the next school year under a recent directive by Kenya’s President Arap Moi.
The step was hailed by Kenya’s Protestant, Roman Catholic and Muslim leaders. An interdenominational church council said, “Life would be empty, dry and materialistic without religious education.”
