Escondido
The proposed 640-home Cloverdale Ranch residential development in the San Pasqual Valley, just west of the San Diego Wild Animal Park, has been approved by a 4 to 1 vote of the Escondido City Council.
The development by Signal Landmark Inc., of Irvine, would be built on 872 acres of rolling hills, with most lot sizes between half an acre and two acres; some lots will be about a quarter of an acre.
City Councilman Jerry Harmon opposed the development, saying the lot sizes were too small for the rural valley. Signal argued that the smaller lots were needed to make the project financially feasible.
The balance of the City Council supported the project at its meeting Wednesday night, and promised to discourage other development in the area by limiting the size of the sewer line that will serve Cloverdale Ranch, which is still to be annexed into the city.
Construction is expected to begin in late 1987, the company said.
