The SEC extended brokers’ rules to banks.
The Securities and Exchange Commission voted to require that banks that profit from brokering securities must register with the commission and meet other requirements applied to traditional broker-dealers. The decision, closing a 1934 loophole, will not affect banks conducting their brokerage business through already registered subsidiaries or those that provide only a limited service to their customers.
