One inmate died and seven others were hospitalized at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo after ingesting an unidentified powder, prison authorities said. Inmate Marcus Lackey, 38, died after consuming the substance Friday, prison spokesman Ed Martin said. Two inmates remain hospitalized and the other five who had been hospitalized were being monitored while in isolation pending an investigation, Martin said. Prison officials were awaiting lab results to identify the substance the men had ingested. All of the men showed symptoms of poisoning, including convulsions and skin sensitivity, Martin said.
