Phyllis George Quits ‘CBS Morning News’
United Press International
NEW YORK — Phyllis George has quit the “CBS Morning News” and will be replaced by Maria Shriver as co-anchor of the show, it was announced Friday.
Shriver will share the co-anchor slot with Forrest Sawyer, who will replace Bill Kurtis, the network said. George’s resignation reportedly was prompted by the decision of her husband, former Kentucky Gov. John Y. Brown, to run for governor again. Brown reportedly is prepared to announce his candidacy next Tuesday.
