Illinois Prison Guards End Protest After Talks

CHESTER, Ill. — Guards at the Menard Correctional Center have ended a protest after meeting with the state corrections chief to air their demands for safer conditions at the maximum-security prison, officials said Friday.
About 100 off-duty guards picketed Thursday to protest the stabbing of fellow guard Robert Dilday, 22, of Rockwood. But LaWanda Cross, an assistant to Menard Warden James Greer, said no picket lines were posted Friday.
