An Alhambra woman was sentenced to 90 days in federal prison after she pleaded guilty to her involvement in a scheme to smuggle illegal immigrants into this country from Asia via Mexico and Central America. Katherine Lee, 41, was one of five people arrested by federal agents in the case. Authorities said the ring charged as much as $8,000 a person to bring Chinese aliens into the United States. Her husband, James Chen-Chun Lee, 40, and two others have been found guilty for their roles in the smuggling ring. A fifth person, Gang-Wei Ferng, 40, of El Monte, stands trial next week before U.S. District Judge Mariana R. Pfaelzer, who has presided over the case.
