The Fiesta Bowl, seeking parity in payouts to participating teams in its annual New Year’s Day football game, announced a five-year, multimillion-dollar agreement for corporate sponsorship with Sunkist Growers.
The game, played at Tempe, Ariz., in 70,021-seat Sun Devil Stadium, will now be called the Sunkist Fiesta Bowl, officials said.
They also said that the payouts for the Jan. 1, 1986, game will increase to at least $1.1 million a team, a boost of about 25% over last January, when Miami and UCLA each got $885,931.
