Zendejas made his first field goal with 5:27 left in the game to tie the score, 3-3, and cap a 10-play, 37-yard drive.

Don Lugo’s Chris Shaffer intercepted a tipped pass at the Sonora 45-yard line with 22 seconds remaining to set up the winning field goal.

Two plays after the interception, quarterback Rich Jimenez completed a 17-yard pass to Ken Peterson, who was tackled after going out of bounds by two Sonora players. The Raiders were assessed a 15-yard personal foul penalty on the play, giving Don Lugo the ball at the Sonora 16-yard line with four seconds to play.

Zendejas’ kick split the uprights to give the Conquistadors the win.

“We never gave up when we were behind,” Monger said. “Zendejas did a great job when we needed him.”

Rich Martin carried the ball 20 times for 54 yards to lead Don Lugo. Steve Stamper rushed for 98 yards in 20 carries to lead Sonora. Stamper also intercepted a pass.
