Vienna Protests

The Beverly Beyer and Ed Rabey article entitled Footloose in Budapest (July 21) has aroused the ire of many Austrians and has led to several complaints to our office. As one who has lived in Vienna, it is especially surprising that they would imply that somehow the Danube would not flow through Vienna. It clearly does. The Danube Canal is merely an appendage of the Danube River. We certainly see no problem in lauding the beauty of Budapest, but see no reason for doing so at the expense of Vienna.
