Rights Official at U.N. Picked for State Dept. Job
WASHINGTONAP — President Reagan plans to nominate Richard Schifter, the U.S. representative on the United Nations Commission for Human Rights, as assistant secretary of state for human rights and humanitarian affairs, the White House said. Schifter, a Washington attorney, will succeed Elliott Abrams if confirmed by the Senate.
