Packwood to Fight Judge Confirmation
PORTLAND, Ore. — Sen. Bob Packwood (R-Ore.) says he will try to hold up Senate confirmation of President Reagan’s nomination of a conservative law professor and anti-abortionist to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
John T. Noonan Jr., 58, of the University of California at Berkeley, was described by Packwood Saturday night as “avid anti-choice and pro-right to life.”
Packwood, a leading congressional advocate of the right to choose to have an abortion, made his comments to reporters while attending a fund-raiser for the Oregon chapter of the National Abortion Rights Action League.
