KARLSRUHE, West Germany — A bus carrying former passengers home from their voyage on the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro slammed into wreckage from a car-truck crash, police said Friday. Three people were killed, including the bus driver and a travel agency employee.
Fifteen of the former passengers of the luxury liner Achille Lauro were hurt, five of them seriously, police said. Besides the bus driver and the travel agency employee aboard the bus, the driver of a car was killed, the police said.
The accident occurred late Thursday on an autobahn south of Karlsruhe, in southern West Germany, police said.
Two trucks collided, and one of them careened through a barrier into oncoming lanes and rammed a car, police said. The travel agency bus carrying the former ship passengers then crashed into the wreckage, they said.
The bus was traveling from the Italian port of Genoa, where the Achille Lauro docked late Wednesday, to Frankfurt.
