Water Polo Roundup : Santa Barbara Defeats Titans in PCAA Match
UC Santa Barbara defeated Cal State Fullerton, 13-5, in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. water polo match Friday at Independence Park. The fifth-ranked Gauchos (6-1, 15-3) had an easy time with the struggling Titans, who are winless in PCAA play. Santa Barbara led Fullerton (0-5, 5-16-1) at the half, 8-1. Randy Nordell scored two goals for Fullerton.
In nonconference action:
UC San Diego 25, Chapman 4--Joe Sanders scored four goals and Tom Holiday added three for the Tritons in this nonconference match at UCSD. The Tritons led 7-1 after the first quarter, and 15-2 by the half. Carter Faber had three goals for Chapman (2-10). The Panthers will play their only home match today, against Chaminade University at Orange High School at 9 a.m.
In community college action:
Golden West 17, Pasadena 4-- Geoff Gruber and Marc Wicks each scored five goals to lead the Rustlers (3-0, 11-2) to this South Coast Conference win at home. It was the fifth consecutive victory for Golden West, No. 1 in the state.
Rancho Santiago 27, Chaffey 8--The Dons (4-0, 15-1) had 13 players score in this Inland Conference rout at Rancho Santiago. Marc Young and Nick Toscas led the Dons with four goals apiece. Ranked No. 2 in the state, the Dons have won eight straight matches since losing to No. 1 Golden West, 11-10, in overtime. Chaffey is 0-3 in conference, 2-7 overall.
