A Nebraska man attacked his ex-wife and barricaded himself in a Costa Mesa apartment, then stabbed himself before officers could enter the apartment, police said. Heidi Hackney telephoned police from Costa Mesa Medical Center to report that her former husband had assaulted her and was still at her apartment, 233 Avocado St., threatening suicide. Daniel Ray Kotachwar, 22, was barricaded in the apartment when police arrived about 6:30 p.m. and threatened to kill any officer who entered the apartment, Police Lt. Leslie Harrison said. Kotachwar was found semi-conscious on the floor, bleeding heavily from a self-inflicted stab wound on the arm. Though Hackney said she had been beaten and threatened with a knife, she had not been stabbed, Harrison said.
