Vote Set on Tax Hearing: The City Council will vote Tuesday on whether to hold a public hearing on its plan to impose an annual tax on businesses in the Main Street area as part of a revitalization program for the district. The money would be used to hire a coordinator to promote businesses in the city’s downtown area. A similar tax that included all businesses in the city was defeated by the council last May because of opposition from a group of business owners. The city’s proposal is to tax businesses between $150 and $270, depending on their size.
