Virginia’s Supreme Court has awarded $200,000 to a man who lost an eye after he was struck in the face by a golf club that flew from his partner’s hands.
The court ruled Friday that Malcolm G. Thurston “had the duty to exercise reasonable care in controlling his golf club so that it would not fly from his hands in the course of a swing.”
The ruling said Thurston, frustrated over hitting two balls into the woods, took a reckless practice swing. His club flew into the face of J. Timothy Taylor, who was standing about 20 feet away.
