Gov. George Deukmejian on Friday appointed San Diego Diego County Supervisor George Bailey to a new position on the state Air Resources Board.
Bailey has been a county supervisor since 1984. He was mayor of La Mesa from 1981 until his election.
The Air Resources Board coordinates state and regional anti-smog laws. Positions are designated to represent various interest groups. Bailey will represent air pollution control districts.
Deukmejian also appointed John Lagarias, 64, president of Lagarias Associates, a science and technology firm in Moraga. He formerly was director of environmental quality for Raymond Kaiser Engineers Inc. in Oakland.
Lagarias will represent chemical engineers.
The board previously had seven members. Now it will have nine.
The positions require Senate confirmation.
