Words on Julien Green
When I was a student in Paris some (can it be?) 30 years ago, my great Franco-American literary hero was Julien Green.
The author had then just returned to France, and I had the pleasure of meeting him various times at Saturday-afternoon receptions chez la vicomtesse : Marie-Laure de Noailles, the last of the great Parisian salonnieres , dead these 20 years.
If the author was born in 1900, as you say in your article, he is currently 85 years old. Is this true? But the photo you publish portrays him exactly as I knew him--when he was 40.
Can it be that he has not aged?
