Goldstein quoted psychologist Robert Butterworth as saying, “Adolescence is a time when kids are trying on new identities . . . heavy metal actually helps some kids, because it gives them a group identity. . . .”
Some of the most popular role-model identities in the heavy-metal scene have been AC/DC’s Bon Scott who drank himself to death, Motley Crue’s Vince Neal who was recently convicted of manslaughter in a drunk driving case and good old Ozzy Osbourne who even freaked his own promo people out by biting off the head of a dove at a record contract meeting.
It is a parent’s responsibility to know what type of role model their children choose.
