J. Spencer Letts was sworn in as a federal district court judge in Los Angeles. Letts, 50, had been with the Los Angeles law firm of Latham & Watkins, concentrating primarily on corporate finance and international credit law. A graduate of Yale and later Harvard Law School, Letts becomes the 20th active jurist for the U.S. Central District of California, which covers Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. He and his wife have two sons and a daughter and live in Rolling Hills.
