As I watched the hours of TV coverage of the Challenger space shuttle tragedy, I was able to express my sorrow privately. Not so for the network anchormen who had to hold back their emotions while admirably juggling news, conversation, replays and impromptu interviews. I was most impressed with Peter Jennings and Lynn Sherr. ABC was the only network with the good grace to end its shuttle coverage with President Reagan’s statement, giving its anchorman Jennings a chance, at last, to release his sorrow with the rest of us.
