Thatcher Says She Wishes Aquino Well

LONDON — Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher today wished Corazon Aquino well as the new president of the Philippines.
Thatcher, speaking at the House of Commons, noted the United States has recognized Aquino as president and added, “We will wish her well as she embarks upon it.” Britain recognizes governments and not individual heads of government and had taken no stand on the turmoil in the Philippines.
