Fletcher Named NASA Chief

WASHINGTON — President Reagan today asked former NASA chief James Fletcher to reassume control over the troubled space agency.
If confirmed by the Senate, Fletcher, a 66-year-old physicist and administrator, would take over an agency battered by the loss of the space shuttle Challenger and the loss of its seven-member crew on Jan. 28 in the nation’s worst space disaster. Fletcher would replace former Administrator James Beggs, who resigned following his indictment on charges unrelated to his government tenure.
