Anaheim Mayor Don Roth and Orange Mayor James H. Beam, both candidates for the Orange County Board of Supervisors, will square off tonight in a debate that will center primarily on the proposal to build a new county jail near Anaheim Stadium.
“Judicial Intimidation Regarding Prison Overcrowding?” is the topic of the free debate sponsored by CITIZEN A.C.T. (Anti-Crime Task Force) Coalition, an umbrella organization comprising 15 groups, including Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, Parents of Murdered Children and the Adam Walsh Center.
The debate is open to the public and will begin at 7:30 in the Mercury Savings & Loan Assn. building, 1095 Irvine Blvd. in Tustin, coalition director Howard D. Garber said.
Roth, along with other Anaheim officials, has expressed strong disappointment that the supervisors last week chose a site at Katella Avenue and Douglass Road--a half mile from Anaheim Stadium--for a new county jail.
