Jury Deadlocked in Las Vegas Trial of Spilotro, Eight Others

LAS VEGAS — The jury in the federal racketeering trial of Anthony Spilotro and eight others reported Monday afternoon it was hopelessly deadlocked and had completed its deliberations.
A note from the jurors to U.S. District Judge Lloyd George reportedly said a “unanimous decision cannot be reached on all counts.”
George held a 2 p.m. conference with attorneys to further discuss the situation and ordered the attorneys and jurors back for another closed meeting at 4:30 p.m.
The nine defendants face a total of more than three dozen counts, with the bulk of the charges involving conspiracy and racketeering.
Spilotro is alleged by government authorities to be the Las Vegas overseer for Chicago crime interests.
