Gulls Bus a Bust on First Mission
As problems go, Ken McMullen, Jim Biby and Jim Colborn hope it’s the worst. Then again, it may just be the first.
Better now than halfway to Reno, though. That much they know.
The Gull Express--a 1967 diesel recliner acquired to transport the first-year Ventura County Gulls on trips--was grounded on its first mission. A brake line broke while the bus was on its way to pick up the team at LAX on Tuesday morning.
“It only caused about an hour delay,” said McMullen, who along with Biby and Colborn own the Gulls. “We rented another one.”
Such are the perils of running a Class-A baseball team, as the three co-owners of the first-year Ventura County Gulls are rapidly learning.
After a mechanic made repairs, the Gull Express--complete with wings and logo painted on its sides--made it home.
