Bellflower : Reward to Fight Graffiti
The City Council will offer a $750 reward for efforts leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone caught defacing public or private property with graffiti.
The five-member council voted unanimously Monday for an ordinance establishing the reward. The measure goes into effect in 30 days.
The $750 amount “was a compromise,” said Councilman M. G. Brassard. “I believed $1,000 was fair. Some members thought it was too high,” he said.
The city had received a few complaints this year from citizens concerned about graffiti, Brassard said.
“It is a small problem now but we wanted to attack it before it becomes a big one,” the councilman said.
The city now has a program in which graffiti is removed, without cost, from the property of any resident.
