STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State and Texas, two of the nation’s winningest college football teams, have agreed to split a pair of home games for the 1989 and 1990 seasons.
Penn State will play at Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 30, 1989, and the Longhorns will visit Beaver Stadium in State College Sept. 29, 1990.
Texas is third in all-time Division I-A victories with 640. Penn State ranks fifth with 604.
Only six schools are members of the 600-victory club among Division I-A schools--Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Alabama, Penn State and Nebraska.
The Lions and the Longhorns have both won once in previous meetings.
Penn State defeated Texas, 30-6, in the 1972 Cotton Bowl. The Longhorns evened the series with a 28-3 victory at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., during the 1984 season.
