Negotiators for the city of Detroit and 7,000 striking municipal workers returned to the bargaining table under court order to try to end a 9-day walkout that has brought city services to a standstill. “It’s a very delicate stage in the negotiations,” said Roger Cheek, the city’s chief negotiator, before resuming talks with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The strike has idled city buses, garbage collection and closed the zoo and Detroit Institute of Arts.
