Authorities in three states were searching Wednesday for two South Dakota jail escapees suspected of having kidnaped and robbed a family from Llano, Calif.
Ronald A. Stover, 31, and Darrell Jones, 32, who broke out of jail in Pennington County, S.D., held a family there hostage for three days and stole their truck, which was found later in Nevada.
Police said they subsequently abducted Maynard Caler, 72, his wife, Bertha, 65, their daughter, Marie Klien, 48, and granddaughter Catherine Klien, 25, in Las Vegas, and forced the family to drive them to the Caler home in Llano, where one suspect stole the family car while the other forced Maynard Caler to withdraw $14,000 from a bank, and then fled.
