Norwalk : City to Pay for Mexico Trips
The City Council voted 4-1 to allocate an additional $1,518 for two members of the Cultural Arts Commission to attend the 1986 mayoral address in Hermosillo, Mexico, Norwalk’s sister city.
The council previously approved spending $3,000 to send four members of the International Friendship Commission. The commission also requested that the length of the visit be extended from three days to five.
Esperanza Hale, chairwoman of the friendship commission, said the commission originally asked for five days but that there was a mix-up in the paper work. She said members of both commissions will be discussing various programs with Hermosillo officials, including an arts and cultural exchange program between elementary school students. Councilwoman Margaret I. (Peg) Nelson voted against the allocation, saying that sending that many commission members was not necessary.
