Eight additional felony charges have been filed against former Pasadena developer Stanley Sirotin over an alleged embezzlement scheme that authorities say bilked more than $4.2 million from investors. The new charges against Sirotin, who fled the country with his wife in 1984, include filing false tax returns, failing to file tax returns and selling securities by means of false statements. In July, Sirotin, 62, and his wife, Alice Beryl, were charged with five counts of grand theft. The charges end a two-year joint investigation by the state Department of Corporations and the district attorney’s major fraud division. Sirotin, a major developer in Pasadena from 1978 to 1984, allegedly embezzled millions from The Commons, a retail and office complex that he built in the downtown area. State and local authorities contend that the Sirotins used money supplied by private investors for their own use. Extradition proceedings are under way, authorities said.
