Iranian Jailed After Guards Foil Beirut Bank Holdup

BEIRUT — A 21-year-old Lebanese-born Iranian was arrested after five men tried to rob a bank at gunpoint in Muslim West Beirut on Wednesday, police said.
Barwiz Shirazi was arrested when the robbers were forced by security guards to flee from the bank, dropping their haul of cash. The other four escaped.
Bank robberies are an almost daily occurrence in Beirut.
