The State : Bonanno Jr. Gets Prison
Joseph C. Bonanno Jr., 41, son of a one-time Mafia leader, has been sentenced in Sacramento to four years in federal prison for taking part in an investment scam. U.S. District Judge Raul Ramirez imposed the sentence and dismissed a motion for a new trial sought on grounds of jury misconduct and bias. The jury acquitted the defendant’s brother, Salvatore Bonanno, 53, on all 34 counts of fraud and conspiracy after a two-month trial. But Bonanno Jr., son of Joseph (Joe Bananas) Bonanno, was convicted in May on eight counts of fraud and conspiracy for bilking Northern California investors out of $250,000 in a scam that involved the marketing of historical wall posters.
