Kentucky Police Can’t Link Bones to Suspects

The bones of a man found in the backwoods of McCreary County, Ky., probably are not related to two slayings allegedly committed by an ex-convict being held in San Bernardino County Jail, Kentucky state police said Saturday.

James Gregory Marlow, 30, and his companion, Cynthia Lynn Coffman, 24, are suspected of kidnaping and killing two young Southern California women.

When he was arrested two weeks ago, Marlow reportedly told Redlands police that he had been hired by a drug dealer to kill a man last summer in Kentucky. Marlow provided the police with information that was forwarded to Kentucky state police.

But Marlow’s statements apparently do not relate to the bones found in McCreary County, according to Trooper Gilbert Acciardo Jr.

Acciardo said the state is waiting for a report by David Wolf, a forensic anthropologist. So far, Wolf has concluded that the victim was Caucasian and died less than a year ago. The remains were found Nov. 19 by hunters near Marlow’s home town of Whitley City, Ky.

Marlow and Coffman are accused of kidnaping and murdering Corinna D. Novis of Redlands and are suspects in the murder of Lynel Murray of Huntington Beach. Miss Novis’ body was found in Fontana on Nov. 15. Miss Murray’s body was found Nov. 13 in a Huntington Beach motel room.
