San Diego High School Basketball : Granite Hills Rallies for Win

Last season Granite Hills High School’s basketball team had a 1-22 record. Granite Hills (1-1) matched that victory total Friday night with a 46-43 come-from-behind victory over Serra in the Mt. Helix tournament at Helix High.
Serra (0-2) led by eight points with four minutes left before Granite Hills went to a press that forced five crucial turnovers, allowing Granite Hills to take the lead. Mike Locke and John Tenney had 12 points each for Granite Hills and Shawn Ruff added 10. Todd Knight led Serra with 19. In other tournament games, San Dieguito (2-1) defeated Helix (1-1), 64-41.
TOURNAMENTS
FOOTHILLER
Grossmont 76, Southwest 66--Lance Williams scored 27 points to lead Grossmont at Grossmont High. Greg Berman added 17 for Grossmont (1-1) and Jason Foggiano had 14. Grossmont took a 51-38 halftime lead.
El Cajon Valley 54, Oceanside 37--Shawn Ellis scored 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the floor to lead El Cajon Valley (2-0). P.J. Panebianco, a 6-6 forward, had 12 points and 14 rebounds and guard Walley Yeakle added 11 assists for El Cajon Valley.
TORREY PINES
Fallbrook 49, Ramona 41--Fallbrook outscored Ramona 16-4 in the fourth quarter to win at Torrey Pines High. Ramona (1-1) led 32-26 at the half, but managed only nine second-half points. Mike West led Fallbrook (1-0) with 16 points. John Leichty and John Schweitzer had 12 each for Ramona.
NONLEAGUE
Orange Glen 69, San Pasqual 37--Steve Clinger and Dan Early had 14 points each as Orange Glen (1-1) beat San Pasqual (0-1). Early added eight rebounds and Clinger had seven for Orange Glen, which took a 30-21 halftime lead.
GIRLS
Poway 44, Serra 37--Forward Deanne Anastas scored 12 points to lead Poway (1-2) in the Santana tournament. Guards Jill Brawner and Lynell Stokes added 10 points each for Poway.
