Orange County Community College Basketball : Golden West Defeats Marines, 98-90

Freshman forward Jim Stewart scored 20 points and had 19 rebounds as Golden West College defeated the El Toro Marine Base team, 98-90, in the first round of the Golden West Tournament at Huntington Beach Thursday night.
Golden West had 60 rebounds.
The Rustlers (2-3) play Oxnard tonight at 8 in a semifinal game. The tournament championship is Saturday night at 8.
In the San Jose College Tournament:
Columbia 67, Orange Coast 43--Danny Martin and Keith Rakoncza led the scoring for the Columbia Claim Jumpers (7-3) with 11 points apiece. Rob Mase led the Pirates (10-1) with 16 points. The loss ends OCC’s 10-game winning streak.
In the Santa Barbara Tournament:
Saddleback 57, Santa Barbara 54--The Gauchos (5-3) outscored the Vaqueros, 12-1, in the final three minutes to defeat the host team. Vince Smalls was the leading scorer with 17 points. He also had 6 rebounds.
Cypress 71, Hancock 64--With the victory, the Chargers advance to the championship semifinals against county rival Saddleback tonight at 7.
