Charges Dropped in Eu Beating Case

Charges that a man beat Secretary of State March Fong Eu with a hatchet were dismissed Thursday by a judge because Eu was in Taiwan on a trade mission and unavailable to testify at the defendant’s preliminary hearing.
But prosecutors said they will refile the charges against state prison parolee Gregory Lee Moore, 27, early next month, when Eu is expected to return.
Moore, meanwhile, was ordered to stand trial on five counts of residential burglary and three counts of residential robbery in a series of break-ins in the Hancock Park area. Moore was ordered to remain in custody in lieu of $300,000 bail pending arraignment in Superior Court on Jan. 2.
