Suspicious Fire Hits Philippine Ministry
Associated Press
MANILA — Fires damaged the Foreign Ministry office Friday and destroyed a warehouse of the Ministry of Public Works, officials said. The causes were not immediately known.
Foreign Minister Salvador Laurel said that the fire at his ministry may have been started by faulty wiring, but that investigators did not rule out arson.
Laurel said the fire, if deliberate, could have been set by “terrorists who want to destabilize the government” or ministry employees “who would not want certain documents to continue to exist.” He did not elaborate.
