Smith New USC Football Coach
From Associated Press
Larry Smith, who vastly improved what had been a so-so Arizona football program, was named the new head coach of the University of Southern California today.
He will replace Ted Tollner who was fired after four years, ending his tenure with a disappointing 7-5 record, including a 16-7 loss to Auburn in Thursday’s Florida Citrus Bowl. Another candidate for the USC job, Iowa coach Hayden Fry, said earlier today that he would remain at Iowa.
