Pedestrian Struck, Killed in Buena Park

A Buena Park woman was killed Wednesday when she walked through a red light and was struck by a pickup truck, police said.

Laura G. Simms, 22, was walking south on Knott Avenue across La Palma Avenue about 5:30 p.m. when she was hit by a truck traveling east on La Palma, police spokesman Terry Branum said.

Paramedics took Simms to La Palma Community Hospital, where she died about an hour later, he said. Simms had just bought two small bottles of liquor and had been drinking from one of them when she crossed the street, Branum said. The driver of the truck was not held or cited.
