Yasser Arafat’s mainstream Fatah faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization has canceled a controversial Middle East peace coordination agreement with Jordan’s King Hussein, according to the group’s deputy commander, Khalil Wazir, known as Abu Jihad. Cancellation of the so-called Amman agreement is one of the key reconciliation conditions of the PLO’s anti-Arafat camp. The 1985 agreement was designed to coordinate Middle East peace moves through a joint delegation at any international conference on the Arab-Israeli conflict. The accord was vehemently criticized by hard-line Palestinian groups.
