Redondo Beach : Trial Parking Ban OKd
Parking will be prohibited at night on sections of the Esplanade, the city’s only undeveloped oceanfront strip.
The City Council voted this week to prohibit parking between Knob Hill and the Torrance border between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on a trial basis this summer. Violators will be towed. Enforcement will begin in early July when signs are posted.
Residents have complained to city officials--as they did last summer--about youths who cruise the strip, blast their stereos, party on the beach side of the street until early morning and litter.
Police increased patrols on weekend nights this spring, resulting in 423 moving-vehicle citations, 326 parking citations and 53 arrests between March 7 and May 23, according to Police Chief Roger Moulton.
