Five Gunmen Kidnap Teacher in Sardinia

NUORO, Sardinia — Five masked men brandishing sawed-off shotguns seized a young woman teacher Saturday in the first kidnaping in Sardinia this year, police said.
Cristina Berardi, a 26-year-old teacher and daughter of a local industrialist, was driving toward the town of Nuoro, in eastern Sardinia, when she was flagged down by the gunmen. They forced her into the back seat and drove her toward the mountains, witnesses said.
