Saving the Vanishing Forests of the World
Your deeply researched and detailed articles on the forests of the world make the aching heart of a world citizen sing!
I am fortunate to belong to a local organization that dedicates itself to trees and, through them, tries to heal the world in a small way.
Locally, in the past four years, TreePeople has saved 75,000 nursery surplus trees from burning, and distributed them to needy families through food banks, churches and schools. Last year, 5,000 of these same trees were flown to Africa.
In the 1986-87 school year, we spoke to 25,000 children about the vital part they play in the natural world around them.
Working with a shoestring budget, TreePeople’s staff of 14 and volunteer core of 200 provide Los Angeles with a service unique to this country and possibly the world.
