A Pittsburgh radio disc jockey looking for a novel way to beat a July heat wave Thursday used 300-pound ice blocks to build a giant igloo, but was forced to abandon the project when the walls began to melt. KDKA jock Mike Levine built the igloo in downtown Pittsburgh, using donated blocks of ice. The igloo had reached a height of about 5 feet when heat from the midday sun--temperatures climbed to 92 degrees--caused it to begin melting rapidly. Said Levine, “It seemed like a great idea at the time.”
