Woman Shot in Robbery
Masked gunmen held up a small San Dimas restaurant shortly before it was to close, shooting and critically wounding a frightened customer who tried to run off and pistol-whipping an employee, authorities said Friday.
Two or three men wearing ski masks burst into the Casa del Rey on Bonita Avenue about 9:35 p.m. Thursday and ordered several customers and patrons into a large freezer, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Smith said.
When one customer tried to run off, one of the assailants shot her once in the lower back with a .38-caliber handgun, Smith said. An employee who tried to intervene was struck on his head with a gun butt before the robbers escaped with an undetermined amount of cash before police arrived.
The woman, who was not identified, was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, where she was listed in critical condition.
