Local News in Brief : Indigent Prenatal Care
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday directed health officials to study the possibility of contracting with private doctors and medical groups to take over the operation of public health clinics that provide prenatal care to indigent pregnant women.
On the motion of Supervisor Pete Schabarum, health officials were asked to “determine those county prenatal clinics which are most poorly managed and offer these sites first to the private sector.” The board also requested an assessment of current clinic operations to determine if there is a need to redirect some health care funds to prenatal services.
